Saint Ambrose - Bishop of Milan and Doctor of the Church (Treviri, Germany, c. 340 - Milan, Italy, 397).
Saint Ambrose was the son of a Roman Senator. He distributed all that he had of gold and silver to the poor. To master theology, he studied the Sacred Scriptures and the Fathers of the Church, and conferred with learned Christians concerning the rules of ecclesiastical discipline. He died in 397, full of years and of honors, and is revered by the Church of God as one of her greatest Doctors.
