Santa Lucia MIDI file Lyrics

This song is the most famous neapolitan one after 'O sole mio; it was written by T. Cottrau - Longo in 1835. It is an ode dedicated to the city of Naples and to the Santa Lucia area which faces the Gulf.
As you can read in the lyrics, it is sung by a boatman, who describes the view you can admire in Santa Lucia. It's night, the moon is refleced in the sea, the magic you can feel watching the boats in the sea is indescribable: they sail softly, driven by the sea breeze.
This marvelleus view let the sailor forget how life is hard.
Naples is indeed defined in this song as "suolo beato, ove sorridere volle il Creato" ("holy soil, where the Creator wished to smile"). Santa Lucia quarter is called "impero dell'armonia" ("Harmony empire").
The boatman invites people gettino on his boat: you will admire the sea and the city, driven by a mild wind .
